About Me

Hi and welcome to my website. I’m Alexander Hidic, a German producer, documentary filmmaker, editor and science communicator.

Between 2020 and 2026, I studied Photography and Visual Media at Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences, specialising in Media Design, with a particular focus on film. Since 2022, I have also been a volunteer member of Bielefelder Filmhaus e. V.

During my studies, I learnt a great deal about filmmaking and made loyal friends who share this passion with me. Our fascination with discovering and telling stories inspired our time at Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences and created many wonderful memories, some of which can be found here. Over the course of this time, I also learnt to work in a documentary style and shot my first documentary films.

My deep motivation for scientific outreach and education for society as a whole stems from my passion for palaeontology, which has been with me since my youth. Role models such as David Attenborough, Tim Haines, Nigel Marven and Jane Goodall have been a constant presence in my life through the media and have given me a direction in which I wish to develop as a person. Broadly speaking, my work is based on the desire to bring people closer to the natural sciences whilst entertaining them. With my final-year dissertation, ‘Ammonites – Beauty Captured in Stone’, I took my first major step towards science communication in 2026.

As a recent graduate in media design, I am still at the very beginning of my journey. A bachelor’s degree does not make an artist; very few leave university as fully-fledged artists with a unique style. I have learnt the basics of the craft and experienced my first influences through lecturers, sources of inspiration and fellow students; I have learnt how to tell a story and developed my own taste, which is now having an ever-greater influence on my creative processes. I have also rediscovered my guiding thread, which I’d somewhat lost at the start of my degree (which is a good thing, as one must also discover new things off the beaten track), and am now returning to the roots of my inspiration: paleo-media and science documentaries.

Accordingly, this website is a chronology of my development, an archive of my ideas and influences that have found their way into my life at various points. Here you’ll find the old, here the new is emerging, here a creative person is growing. Thank you for stopping by to share a moment in my creative work.

Statement: I consistently reject the use of AI in the creative process.
